Public Education

Helve’s professional experience as a composer and educator with the Artists in Schools Residency Program (1994-2009) as well as Learning Through The Arts (2007-2008) expanded her knowledge base of public education curriculum as well as enabled her to make valuable contributions to youth in Alberta public education. She contributed to new learning partnerships with Alberta school teachers through LTTA. Her one week Music Everywhere! Residency was an in-depth arts program where students created their own compositions using their own poetry. She uses a similar format when giving summer music camps.

Other work involving public education in smaller groups was in private schools. Helve worked at Parkland Montessori Preschool as their music instructor (2011-2013) and was able to use her Music Everywhere! Program to instill the love of music while supporting the curriculum and beliefs of the Montessori method of teaching. Her past experiences teaching the Yamaha Music School method broadened her approach to teaching private lessons to include singing and keyboard harmony at a very early age.

Though Helve no longer works with these programs, they have contributed to her knowledge and skill in all areas of music that she still pursues. Please read each individual program to better understand the program as well as Helve’s contribution and experience within each artistic endeavour.

Helve is now available to teach programs in a similar manner as an independent contractor.
